March 2011-March 2017: 6 years of war in Syria. Peace and justice for the Syrian people.

Latest News

This Saturday at 5 PM, at Garibaldi Square, a gathering organized by Amnesty International to call for “peace and justice” for the Syrian people.

The news coming from Syria shows that the conflict is far from over.

Despite a theoretical ceasefire, fighting and bombings, sometimes with the use of chemical weapons, continue in the areas where the Syrian government army, rebel groups, the Western coalition, and ISIS confront each other. Torture and extrajudicial executions persist.

Amnesty International recalls that in August 2015, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2235, which created an “investigation mechanism” tasked with identifying individuals responsible for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Since then, this mechanism has identified the Syrian government as well as the Islamic State as the perpetrators of chemical weapons attacks.

However, the veto cast by Russia on February 28, 2017, has blocked the implementation of this procedure.

It is therefore essential that the members of the Security Council reverse this decision and allow the application of this resolution so that justice can finally be served to the Syrian people.
