Mastercagade at Masterchef!

Latest News

Friday evening, the finale of Masterchef took place on TF1. Like many people from Nice, you might have been in front of your television when, suddenly, disaster struck—the Niçoise salad was mercilessly butchered by a jury composed of “experts” and two contestants who listened to them.

salade_nicoise_np.jpg “I didn’t watch the show live but I was quickly informed by many people via email, SMS, or phone calls. I watched it the next day (yesterday) on replay. It’s absurd but, on the other hand, it clearly proves the great importance of the Cuisine Nissarde Label and the need to protect it from unscrupulous restaurateurs as well as chefs who, although awarded stars, are not well-informed,” explains Franck Viano, member of the technical committee of the Cuisine Nissarde Label and the Cercle de la Capelina d’Or.

“Green beans and potatoes… And when you take another closer look, there’s also curly salad, tapenade, and even shiso chive sprouts. Why not add corn and hearts of palm? I am very surprised that these shows with professional chefs and large production companies can let such a thing pass!” continues this passionate advocate of Niçoise cuisine, noting that a quick online search, a look in Jacques Médecin’s book, or a phone call to the Capelina d’Or could have prevented this blunder.

And indeed, it bears repeating: “No cooked vegetables in the Niçoise salad.”

And as proof, we sincerely thank the Cuisine Nissarde Label and the Cercle de la Capelina d’Or for this authentic recipe of the Niçoise salad!

Enjoy your meal
