Olympic medalist at the Beijing Winter Olympics a few weeks ago, the Azurian will return to his homeland to celebrate his achievement with the public of the Maralpin region.
This Saturday, February 26, Mathieu Faivre, recently awarded Bronze in giant slalom in Beijing, will return to the slopes of Isola 2000, which he has frequented since childhood. Born in Nice in 1992 and licensed with the Isola Club of Sports since his childhood, it is in the Maralpine mountains that he trained and honed his skills until earning this medal.
Last year, the skier had already made Isola proud with a double individual world champion title at the World Championships held in Cortina d’Ampezzo. He first won the parallel event on February 16, before clinching victory two days later at the end of the two-run giant slalom.
In this latter discipline, Mathieu Faivre shone once again by placing on the third step of the podium with a time of 2’10”69 behind the Swiss Marco Odermatt (2’09.35) and the Slovenian Zan Kranjec (2’09”54).
With this giant slalom bronze medal, he became the fifth French skier to earn an Olympic medal in the discipline. He also joined the very exclusive list of Isola 2000 medalists, which until then included Tony Ramoin (bronze in snowboardcross in 2010) and Julia Pereira (silver in snowboardcross in 2018).
Mathieu Faivre will thus return to his playground this Saturday.
He will arrive at 5:45 PM by helicopter on the snow front near the chapel of Isola and at 6 PM, he will deliver a speech to the public.
Finally, to celebrate their champion properly, a buffet and a concert by the group “Les Droops” will be offered to all.
