Maurice Domenge, a former iconic contestant of the show “Pékin Express,” has passed away at the age of 86. The M6 group announced the news this Tuesday on Instagram. A tribute will be paid to him on Saturday, February 15th, on the air.
Maurice Domenge participated in two seasons of the adventure show alongside his son Thierry. In 2018, at the age of 80, he joined season 11 of the program and became the oldest participant in the competition. His son, convinced by his energy, had secretly signed him up. “I noticed his physical resilience when we walked the Camino de Santiago together. He was always ahead of me. So, I secretly signed him up for the selections,” Thierry explained to our colleagues at Nice-Matin.
The duo traveled through Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, leaving a lasting impression with their camaraderie. Maurice even celebrated his 80th birthday on the set, in a segment where he discovered messages from his loved ones.
Two years later, they returned for the 13th season, which brought back former contestants. They were eliminated at the beginning of the adventure in Russia.
A tribute will be paid to him Saturday night
M6 and the production of “Pékin Express” expressed their “great sadness” and extended their condolences to his family. “We extend all our condolences to his family, particularly to his son Thierry with whom he shared all his adventures,” read the message posted by M6.
To honor his memory, the show will rebroadcast significant moments from his journey this Saturday at 12:35 am on M6 and streaming on the M6+ platform.
