70 Years of the Schuman Plan, 70 European Stories!

This year, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration of May 9, 1950, marking the beginning of European integration.

Robert Schuman is one of the founding fathers of Europe. On May 9, 1950, he was the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. His Lorraine origins placed him at the heart of the European process, and his past as a deportee instilled in him the desire to end the fratricidal wars between the French and the Germans.

In a historic speech delivered in Paris, Robert Schuman proposed a new form of political cooperation between Germany and France that would make any war between the nations of the European continent unthinkable. This is the starting point of European integration.
