“The story of an exceptional couple of writers in the communist adversity of Albania and their fight for freedom,” Helena Kadare.

Meeting with Helena Kadare, the wife of the great Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, whose writings accompanied the fall of the communist world.

Ismail Kadare’s wife will discuss their life; from Albania to Moscow and from communism to dissidence.

In 1990, they were granted political asylum in France, and Ismail Kadare was elected an associate member of the Acadรฉmie des Sciences Morales et Politiques.

Beyond the very rich anecdotes and a humor only bestowed by the experience of tragedy, these memoirs testify to the complexity of Helena’s life. As a hostage of the Albanian government, she shared with Ismail Kadare a passion for writing and a fight for freedom. She knew how to safeguard the most dangerous texts of his work and introduce us to the story of a couple with an exceptional destiny.
