A demonstration organized by the association “Nice la vie,” authorized by the Prefecture, took place yesterday afternoon in the city center, following the classic route from Garibaldi Square to Massรฉna Square.
More than a thousand business owners and restaurateurs gathered to protest against the administrative closure of their establishments for health reasons. Despite the mask-wearing requirement, a large majority chose not to comply!
Other protesters from various backgrounds joined the demonstration, including a few former “yellow vests” who missed the need to march.
The main hospitality industry union, the national Umih, announced the decision of restaurant and cafรฉ owners to take legal action to contest the government’s decision to close their establishments as part of the lockdown. The union has already filed a complaint against the decree of October 29, 2020, which orders the closure of “Type N” restaurants and bars while allowing collective catering.
