Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 at 7:30 PM, Espace Magnan hosts Metanoïa, the Omen of the Butterfly. This powerful one-woman show, presented by the L’Albatros & L’Éléphant company, tells the story of a woman’s struggle to regain her freedom and identity. An immersive experience combining theater, dance, and visual poetry.
Written and performed by Mélissa Prat, Metanoïa explores the complexities of a destructive relationship and the journey towards resilience. In this autofiction, the author gives voice to everyone who, trapped in toxic relationships, aspires to liberation. “I wanted to celebrate those who dare to say no, who stand up and choose life despite everything,” explains Mélissa Prat.
Directed by Bénédicte Allard, the play alternates between shadow and light. The narrative progresses, supported by an evolving stage design: a modular metal frame, ropes symbolizing control, and lighting effects that convey the shift from an idyll to violence. The electronic music from Clément Althaus heightens the emotional intensity of each scene.
A live metamorphosis
On stage, the actress embodies metamorphosis. As she removes the pieces of an oversized male costume, she frees her body and mind. This gesture, like an act of rebellion, illustrates the internal struggle and the refusal to be silenced.
For Bénédicte Allard, this journey is essential. “Highlighting love, but also rupture and hold, is to acknowledge the full complexity of these stories.” With movements drawing from dance and circus, the play conveys this urgency to act for emancipation.
Created in 2020, Metanoïa, the Omen of the Butterfly remains highly topical. Through this show, the L’Albatros & L’Éléphant company delivers a committed and deeply human work.
