As a reminder, the municipal elections also elected metropolitan councilors. Each mayor becomes one ex officio, while other councilors are elected in proportion to the number of inhabitants in each municipality. Nice elects 65 (52 from the Estrosi list, 7 from the Vardon list, 6 from the Governatori list).
The first thought that comes to mind after the conclusion of these elections is that the famous “dégagisme” – mentioned in other elections – has truly taken off in the Metropolis.
In the end, three out of the four municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants have changed their chief elected official.
After the election of Ladislas Polski in La Trinité during the first round (March 15), the second round saw the fall of Cathérine Le Lan in Vence and especially (what a surprise!) Charles Scibetta in Carros.
Only the experienced and unsinkable Louis Négre avoided being written off and will retain his position.
What consequence for the Metropolis’ balance? At first glance, none. Christian Estrosi is more than likely to remain the president; a few changes (newly elected officials) are expected, but the political structure of the community will remain the same.
In Vence: Régis Lebrigue (LDIV) was elected mayor with 41.71% and only a 149-vote margin over Patrick Scalzo (LDVC). A true disapproval for the outgoing mayor Catherine Le Lan (LDIV), who garnered 19.39% of the votes.
In Cagnes-sur-Mer: the outgoing mayor and First Vice-President of the Metropolis, former senator Louis Négre, was largely re-elected (47.8%) against Marie-José Piret.
In Carros: a major surprise, the outgoing mayor Charles Scibetta, who was leading after the first round, was narrowly defeated by Yannick Bernard, a newcomer to politics who led a civic list. The score was very close, 50.34 to 49.64 for the winner, with a margin of 31 votes.
