“Migrant” Crisis: Stop the Confusion

Latest News

The Roya association has announced a new “shock operation” with the accompaniment of a new group of 65 migrants to the Gendarmerie to request assistance with registration services for asylum applications. Beyond the good faith of these humanitarian activists and the media exploits of their Gandhi, Cédric Herrou, will this little game continue indefinitely?

At this point, some reflections are in order…

Is there anyone who isn’t convinced that the issue of migrants is an emergency? That its social and political impact is significant?

No, everyone, both governors and citizens, is well aware that we are in the midst of a historical and geographical catastrophe that is very hard to manage and even unmanageable!

This shared perception of the severity of the problem makes the behavior of people like Cédric Herrou and his associates particularly irritating when they climb on a chair and announce to everyone that the situation is very serious, that it’s time someone says it as if no one already knew, further accusing the authorities, the State, and Europe of inertia…

As if before them, we didn’t know about the mafia networks exploiting these poor people, the speculations of all kinds surrounding the reception, the squalid trafficking benefiting defenseless minors, the survival economy and street migration without controls.

The problem is that saying it is very easy, it’s facing the situation that is difficult.

If the Roya association has the recipe for the solution that is not just a media parade, they should propose it. It will undoubtedly be accepted because everyone is looking for it.

If not, stop the confusion!

Then all these trumpet concerts serve absolutely nothing; acoustic pollution is as harmful as other forms of pollution.

The matter is serious and grave enough that it should not take on the appearance of a farce.

Since 2015, the “migrant” crisis, fueled by the dramas of failed immigration on European coasts and streets, has held a prominent place in discussions and tensions within and at the borders of the European Union. And the problem may only be beginning…

The announced scale and visible reality of the phenomenon, through new forms of shantytowns and camps in French cities, fuel both tearful chronicles (compassion) and security (systematic rejection) narratives.

In any case, the European “migrant” crisis is indeed a crisis of the asylum system at a time of collapse in countries that experienced their “Arab Spring” and have sunk into chaos. It is also a result of conflicts in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, with the consequence of a mass arrival of people fleeing the devastation of their countries or seeking to benefit from the more favorable environment of European countries.

With these terminological uncertainties, mixing legal and illegal immigration, asylum requests, and undefined situations, it’s easy to understand the statistical uncertainties about the volumes of the population concerned.*
