Migrations (1): The European Crisis of Confidence

Latest News

Debates around migratory pressures continue to plunge the European Union into its divisions. Divisions between countries of first entry and countries of resettlement; divisions between countries with a long history of immigration and those more traditionally known for emigration; divisions between Eastern and Western Europe.

The recent and heated controversy over the title of the European commissioner in charge of migrations, who is supposed to “defend the European way of life,” is the latest manifestation of this issue.

All of this stems from the fact that in many countries, migratory processes are causing increasingly strong tensions, which result in the rise of far-right, nationalist, or xenophobic parties, some of which even manage to gain power.
