This Thursday, April 9th, was marked by the new victory of Valentin Vacherot, who qualified for the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000. Also on the agenda: Sinner and Alcaraz struggling, and Joao Fonseca scheduling a match with Zverev.
Valentin Vacherot continues to shine at home and qualified for the quarter-finals by convincingly defeating the Polish player Hubert Hurkacz.
In the first set, Valentin Vacherot started very strong. Carried by his crowd and taking advantage of Hubert Hurkacz’s many unforced errors, he broke twice right away and quickly led 4-0. However, there was a significant resurgence from Hubert Hurkacz, who managed to catch up completely. Despite the support from the crowd, a struggling Valentin Vacherot eventually lost the first set in a tie-break.
The second set began just as intensely. Hurkacz was more aggressive, with 15 winning shots compared to only 4 for his opponent. Despite this, it was Vacherot who took control by breaking in the middle of the set to lead 4-2. Strong on his service games, the Monegasque managed the end of the set perfectly and won 6-3.
In the third set, both players exchanged blows, and the tension rose another notch. Vacherot achieved a decisive break in the eighth game and took the lead 4-3. At the moment of closing out, he remained calm, saving three break points. He finally won in a suspenseful finish, with a score of 6/7-6/3-6/4.
Valentin Vacherot continues to make history and becomes the first Monegasque player to reach the quarter-finals at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000. He will face the Australian Alex De Minaur tomorrow.
