On Sunday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Rainier III Auditorium, Yakov Kreizberg Hall, Julia Fischer will pay tribute to Yakov Kreizberg, the Musical Director of the OPMC who passed away in March. She will perform, among other pieces, “Poรจme” by Ernest Chausson, the last work recorded with Yakov Kreizberg and the OPMC in November 2010.

Juanjo MENA, conductor

Juanjo Mena took on the role of Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in September 2011. As one of Spain’s most sought-after conductors, Juanjo Mena was the Artistic Director of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra from 1999 to 2008. He is currently also the Principal Guest Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (2007โ€2013) and the Principal Guest Conductor at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa (2007โ€2010). Juanjo Mena was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the north of Spain, where he studied composition and orchestration with Carmelo Bernaola. He studied conducting with Enrique Garcia-Asensio in Madrid, where he received an Honor Prize.

Julia FISCHER, violin

Born in Munich in 1983, Julia Fischer began playing the piano with her mother at the age of 3, but soon turned to the violin.

Julia Fischer is globally recognized for her talent and extraordinary musicianship, as reflected by the numerous awards and outstanding reviews she has received throughout her career, both in recordings and live performances. Notably, she was named “Artist of the Year” by Deutsche Grammophon in 2007.
