Lorin MAAZEL conductor ‐ Olga SCHEPS piano
“Opening Concert”
GRIEG Piano Concerto
DVOŘÁK Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”
An exceptional opening concert, conducted by the great conductor Lorin Maazel, born in 1930 in France, a child prodigy.
In 1960, he became the youngest conductor and the first American conductor to lead at the prestigious Bayreuth Festival and to be appointed director of the Vienna Opera.
His sense of musical alchemy and personality make him one of the most inspired conductors of his time.
The program includes Grieg’s Piano Concerto performed by the young pianist Olga Scheps, which is one of the greatest concertos in the piano repertoire, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From
the New World,” one of the most popular in the history of music.
