The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, supported by its Lead Conductor, Maestro Gianluigi GELMETTI, presented the program for the new 2012-2013 season this Monday, June 25. Great concerts in sight, rich and varied, reflecting an Orchestra with many facets!
On the occasion of a press conference on June 25, 2012, Sylvain CHARNAY, administrator of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, presented the program for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
He took the opportunity to pay tribute to Maestro Yakov KREIZBERG, who passed away prematurely at the age of 51 on March 15, 2011, and to introduce the new Lead Conductor of the Orchestra: Maestro Gianluigi GELMETTI, who had previously held the position from 1990–1992 and was specially solicited by S.A.R. Princess Caroline of Hanover.
Close to the heart of the new Conductor GELMETTI, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is constructing this new season to satisfy as much as possible the diverse musical tastes and interests of the audience.
To achieve this, the 2012-2013 season will be structured around several themes. From the Monegasque National Day – which will take place next November 19, and until the end of April –, the Orchestra will collaborate with the Opera, the Monte Carlo Ballets, and the Spring Arts Festival. More than just a participation, this is a collaboration that Maestro GELMETTI describes as “indispensable” to strengthen an ever-stronger synergy among these institutions.
While the Orchestra’s 2012-2013 season is primarily defined by its “Great Season” and concerts at the Grimaldi Forum and the Rainier III Auditorium, it offers the public a wealth of new productions: following the suggestions of the Board of Directors, the Monte Carlo Orchestra has created spaces by engaging several young conductors among the most recognized of their generation. The new objective of the Orchestra aims to respect the great repertoires of classical music while also leaving room for novelty and “contemporary” music.
The Orchestra will also present a series of chamber music concerts in specific locations (Salle Garnier, The Oceanographic Museum…), as well as a series for the education of young audiences – during four “young audience concerts”, young music lovers will be introduced to the great classics in a playful way through themes that resonate with them: sports, competition, the world of toys, cinema, pirates…
In order to become even more a part of the “internal life of the Principality,” the Orchestra will also organize “spiritual concerts” at the Cathedral and Saint-Charles Church in Monaco, as well as “friendship concerts” in retirement homes, Princess Grace Hospital, and other venues on the Rock for moments of intergenerational sharing and conviviality.
