Mougins: The Olympic Games through the Côte d’Azur Sport Film Festival

Latest News

For its second edition, the Côte d’Azur Sport Film Festival has scheduled, from September 18 to October 5, a festival offering screenings, debates, and conferences to share the values of sport. After a first edition rooted in Sophia-Antipolis in October 2016, the Festival expanded across the Côte d’Azur.

On September 18 and 19, films were viewed by a very young audience in Mougins.

It’s not the time for the Olympic Games, but they made the children’s eyes shine. In the Courteline hall, the Côte d’Azur Sport Film Festival FICTS screened a series of short films in front of audiences aged 6 to 10. These films, created from a compilation of old or new images of the Olympics, animated by music, blended scenes of sharing, athletes’ joy or tears, and explanations of the birth of the games and the IOC…

Its primary ambition: to promote the dissemination of the symbol of culture and the heritage of sport, including the benefits for the host city, the honor of receiving a medal to glorify a nation, or through the values of Olympism with friendship, respect, and excellence. The IOC calls it “the Olympic footprint.”

These films also aim to raise public awareness on themes such as the evolution of women’s participation. In 1908, only 1.8% of the athletes were women. By 2012, they represented 44.2% of the participants, they point out. They also draw attention to the human right to engage in sports.

“This can inspire vocations for Paris 2024.”

Between the “oh!” of amazement at the skiers’ falls or the wide eyes facing the impressive opening ceremonies, the film evoked strong emotions in these children. They subsequently had the opportunity to ask questions to Fabien Mathieu, project manager at CROS PACA, and Renato Ferrari, FICTS delegate.

“The idea was to show them, with Paris 2024, the values of Olympism and we see that there are many questions following the film,” notes Philippe Chotard, deputy general manager of services at the town hall of Mougins. The questions range from the disciplines for the younger ones to more general questions from the older ones.

“This can inspire vocations for Paris 2024,” Mr. Chotard finally observes, smiling.
