On February 8, 1871, Nice elected to the National Assembly a foreigner born in Nice: Giuseppe Garibaldi.
In 1871, while Garibaldi had just fought for France with an international universalist army that he himself had assembled, he was jeered by the right who refused to let him speak, and he resigned. Victor Hugo paid him a vibrant tribute by resigning in turn.
On February 8, 2020, the ViVa! Democracy – Ecology – Solidarity list organized a convivial gathering at the port on citizenship in Nice today and the selection of individuals honored by the municipality for the naming of public spaces.
