At the start of the election campaign, the CCI and UPE06 launched the Eco-Pact to urge candidates from all sides to pay attention and address the issues facing businesses, an essential and fundamental matter for boosting the economic development of the region. The proposed ideas were outlined in 5 commitments and 32 points.
On the eve of the vote, Bernard Kleynhoff (CCI) and Yvon Grosso (UPE06) presented the results of this engagement, expressing their satisfaction: 109 candidates responded to the questions and signed their commitment. This is a significant increase compared to the 80 from six years ago (municipal elections in 2008).
The two presidents expressed their satisfaction: “the approach has taken on a new dimension. This initiative allowed us to engage with candidates from all political sides, raise awareness of our demands, and educate them” – they said – “Some even incorporated this document into their electoral program.”
Indeed, the endorsement of the subscribers to the demands was overwhelmingly positive, with only three of the 32 recommended measures not receiving a majority of favorable responses, while a significant number received a near-unanimous consensus.
Will the facts confirm this honeymoon between the business world and public administration?
Time will tell, although doubts remain regarding the ease of signing…and lack of penalties.
The CCI and UPE will be the guardians of orthodoxy and reserve the right to monitor the “acts and deeds” as well as to discreetly but effectively lobby those who move from candidates to elected officials.
