The small and peaceful commune of Vésubie is at the center of all political attention concerning the duel (never has this word been more appropriate) between the two candidates to succeed the man who was its mayor for 25 years: the inescapable Gaston Franco.
Ousted “manu militari” from the seat of chief magistrate by the president of the General Council, elected from the canton, to whom the same Franco gave way after a surprising defeat in a Niçois canton.
Only the walls and a few insiders know the true reasons for an opposition that turned into a confrontation between two old accomplices. Of course, the walls do not just listen but, sometimes, they even have the peculiarity of transmitting what they hear. Another way of “listening” to one’s constituents.
But the elections are here and, no matter the winner’s name …
Let us give the floor to Gaston Franco who is bidding farewell to the commune he led for 25 years: “We inherited a commune in very bad shape, without a project, without ambition, and we made it a reference among Mountain communes.”
Returning to the elections, the two opponents are Honoré Ghetti*, president of the CGPME, and the dentist Henri Giuge.
The first has the favor of the same Gaston Franco, while the second is the man of Eric Ciotti, who made it known to the inhabitants of the commune that “those who do not vote for Giuge, vote against Ciotti”, just to make it clear who is in charge and to remind that he holds the purse strings.
Did you say “Far West”? No, no, we are indeed in the hinterland of Nice.
