National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Deportation, a day of memory

Latest News

This Sunday, in Nice as well as throughout France, the ceremony for the “National Day of Remembrance for the Victims and Heroes of Deportation” was supposed to take place.

But due to COVID and the lockdown, it was canceled. This is the first time this has happened since its inception in 1954.

Nevertheless, let us spare a thought for those men and women who fought at the cost of their lives to ensure that totalitarianism does not triumph.

A ceremony reserved for the authorities only took place at the Caucade Cemetery.

The National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Deportation honors the memory of all deportees without distinction and pays tribute to their sacrifice.

The purpose of this day is to remind everyone of this major historical tragedy, the lessons that can be learned from it, so that such events do not happen again.

It normally takes place on the last Sunday of April.
