As part of the National Diabetes Prevention Week, the City of Nice is organizing several days of free information, screening, and activities. The aim is to raise awareness among the people of Nice about the risks of type 2 diabetes and to offer local support.
From June 2 to 6, 2025, the people of Nice are encouraged to put on their sneakers and get screened. As part of the Diabetes Prevention Week, prevention and screening facilities will be available throughout the area. These actions aim to inform, alert, and allow for rapid care in case of a risk situation.
Type 2 diabetes affects many people without their knowledge. In France, one in seven people might be affected without knowing it. In Nice, the proportion climbs to 30% for those over 60. โThese are often silent diseases. Without visible symptoms, but with serious consequences if not treated in timeโ, highlights a health professional involved in the operation.
The people of Nice will be able to measure their blood sugar and blood pressure for free, without an appointment, at various sites located across the city: city center, west, Paillon, Pasteur, and Bon Voyage. In case of hyperglycemia or hypertension, follow-up will be offered to guide them towards an appropriate care pathway.
Sports, Screening, and Digital Support
Beyond the screening, concrete actions will be offered to help everyone adopt better lifestyle habits. The Nice ActiโSantรฉ program, developed by the Maison Sport Santรฉ, offers free fitness assessments by registration. These evaluations will take place in various locations: Garibaldi Association House, AnimaNice Gorbella, and Saint-Roch.
A guided tour of the new ActiโSantรฉ Nice Centre walking loop will take place on June 5. The goal is to encourage regular walking as a preventive measure.
The Nice en forme program, at 2 euros per session, will also offer daily appointments: fitโdance, fitโcircuit, or fitโfamily, from June 2 to 7, in several parks and stadiums in the city. These activities are suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Also noteworthy is the France Services “Cลur de Ville” initiative, which will offer, alongside screening, assistance in opening an Ameli account to facilitate access to health rights.
Since 2021, nearly 1,900 people from Nice have already benefited from screening through this initiative. For many, it enabled a diagnosis or a treatment adjustment. This figure confirms the usefulness of these local campaigns.
