Météo France has placed the Alpes-Maritimes under “orange heatwave alert”. The city of Nice has thus implemented preventive actions for the most vulnerable individuals.
Since the heatwave alert was triggered, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, has shown his commitment to protecting the most vulnerable populations. Consequently, a vigilance unit has been established to carry out various preventive measures. These actions aim to protect, rescue, and inform citizens during this intense heat.
Protecting the elderly
The “blue plan” has been activated in nursing homes for dependent elderly individuals (EHPADs). Various specific actions are being organized to minimize risks during this intense heat. They ensure proper hydration, continuity of care, and provide accompaniment to air-conditioned rooms. Although outside these establishments, elderly or disabled individuals have the option to go to these sites to benefit from these preventive measures.
For those in precarious situations
The Local Social Action Center (CCAS) is combatting the exclusion and marginalization of isolated populations. Thus, the dissemination of various preventive announcements among these groups keeps them informed. Moreover, to compensate for the reduction of outreach activities in the summer, the CCAS provides additional food assistance. This aid is accompanied by the distribution of water in various air-conditioned reception centers. Finally, Christian Estrosi emphasized the necessity of implementing exceptional sheltering and protection measures for the most precarious groups.
Opening today at noon of the night shelter, rue Trachel
This shelter provides an air-conditioned site, water distribution, and food bags. The day shelter of the XVth Corps is also open from 8:30 am to 5 pm. It is noted that these establishments will be open as many days as necessary depending on the weather conditions.
