Since the beginning of the week, motorists can benefit from one hour of free on-street parking per day during the week in Nice. The city council voted for this measure, which now applies from Monday to Friday, in addition to existing ones on Saturdays and in municipal car parks.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, the Nice city council adopted a modification of the on-street parking system. The free ticket has thus increased from 30 minutes to one hour weekly, from Monday to Friday. This change concerns all 14,000 paid parking spaces managed by the municipality.
This measure complements those already in effect: one free hour on Saturday and a similar policy in the car parks managed by the Rรฉgie Parcs dโAzur. The announced goal is to facilitate short-term trips, especially those made for shopping or local services.
For the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, this decision addresses several issues.
โThe increase in free parking time to 1 hour weekly for all 14,000 parking spaces in the city of Nice will support the local economic dynamism and access to local shops by offering users more flexibility for making purchasesโ, he declared.
The new system also aims to take into account the travel habits of users who cannot do without their cars.
โThis measure simplifies the parking offer while providing a response to the needs of those who do not have an alternative to carsโ, the mayor pointed out.
A Comprehensive Policy on Mobility
This decision is part of a broader policy of urban mobility reorganization. In Nice, the city and the Metropole aim to multiply initiatives to encourage smoother and more diverse transportation. This includes enhancing intermodality, establishing Park and Ride facilities, and modernizing the Lignes dโAzur network. The tramway is also continuing to expand with the development of lines 4 and 5.
Starting July 1, 2025, public transport will be free for all children under 11. โCommitted to balancing different modes of transportation, we are developing a balanced approach to mobility through increased intermodality and soft mobilityโ, Christian Estrosi reminded.
The new weekly free parking is therefore part of a set of measures aimed at making transportation more accessible while supporting the transition to a more connected city, adapted to its users.
