1. Wish โ€“ Asha and the Good Star by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn

This is the highly anticipated Disney animated film of the year-end. It celebrates the 100th anniversary of the iconic studios. This โ€œChristmas Disneyโ€ tells the quest of Asha, a 17-year-old woman living in the fantastical kingdom of Rosas. A world where all wishes can literally come true. In deep despair, she makes a sincere and powerful wish to the stars, which is answered by a cosmic force: a small sphere of infinite energy named Star. With her new companion, she takes on the main villain of this tale, King Magnifico.

Keep your eyes peeled, as there might be multiple nods to the most famous animated films of the house hidden in this 67th animated feature.

2. The Braid by Laetitia Colombani

This film is a cinematic adaptation of the bestselling novel The Braid by the French author Laetitia Colombani. The novelist herself adapts the story from her book, which sold over 2 million copies. It tells the tale of three intertwined destinies of women. Smita, an Untouchable from India, Giula, an employee at her familyโ€™s business in Italy, and Sarah, a renowned lawyer in Canada, live three completely different lives on three different continents. On the surface, nothing connects them, but each of their personal struggles benefits the others without them knowing.

3. In Praise of Love by Katell Quillรฉvรฉrรฉ

In 1947, two years after the Liberation, Madeleine is a waitress at the Beau Rivage hotel-restaurant. She is the mother of a little boy whom she raises alone. On a beach, she meets Franรงois, a wealthy and cultured archaeology student from Paris. A love story quickly develops between them. Madeleine and Daniel follow him to Paris. But soon, their respective secrets, which they try to escape, will reveal some darkness in the picture.

4. Dumb Money by Craig Gillespie

Dumb Money recounts the incredible true story of an ordinary man and his followers who shook Wall Street in 2021 by betting on GameStop, a video game retail chain that was then in freefall. Keith Gill and his group of amateur traders hit the jackpot and mock the Wall Street sharks. War is declared between the small traders and the big investors, but behind this showdown, a true class struggle unfolds.

5. Perfect Days by Wim Wenders

The German filmmaker sets the scene for his new film in Tokyo, and more specifically in its public toilets. Hirayama works in the maintenance of these places. His simple and structured daily life fulfills him. He draws joy from the beauty in music, books, and the trees he loves to photograph. His past resurfaces when his young niece, whom he barely knows, reappears and asks him for a place to stay.
