In response to an over 20% increase in ridership between 2019 and 2023, and an additional 13% jump between January and June 2024, the city of Nice has decided to intensify its efforts to adapt the Lignes d’Azur network to user needs. It also aims to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by 2030.
As announced at the press conference on August 26, 2024, starting Monday, September 2, several changes will take effect. Line 38 is extended to Garibaldi. This offers more connections with bus line 98 and tramway line 2, facilitating access to the Port district and enhancing service to the city center.
Line 51 will see an increase in frequency, particularly to meet the needs of school commutes. Additionally, Thiers Avenue will now be two-way for buses, improving service to Nice’s SNCF train station.
New Route for Line 99 and Splitting of Line 6 in October
Starting October 21, Line 99 will adopt a new route to serve more points of interest in the city center. This new route also offers more connections with tramway lines and the upcoming line 8+.
Line 6 will be split into two new lines: Line 6 (Magnan ↔ La Madeleine) and Line 10 (Magnan ↔ Hôpital l’Archet / Croix de Berra). These new lines will better meet local service needs while staying connected to tramway line 2.
Additionally, Line 57 is extended to Las Planas with increased frequency, especially in the evening. Lines 31 and 75 will see their frequency doubled, with a bus every 30 minutes.
Revamping of Bus Lines in the Western Districts and New On-Demand Line in 2025
Upon completion of work on Durandy Avenue, lines 60, 61, and 62 will be reorganized to provide better service to Nice’s western districts, with improved frequency on weekdays.
As of January 2025, tramway line 3 will change its route. Connecting Saint-Isidore to Port Lympia, it offers quicker access to the city center for Var residents.
A new on-demand Sunday service will be operational on Nice’s hills. This reservation-based service operates on Sundays and holidays, offering a flexible transportation solution for areas not covered by regular lines.
Measures for a More Efficient and Eco-Friendly Network
These improvements aim to ease the daily lives of users while contributing to carbon emissions reduction. The city of Nice and Lignes d’Azur continue to modernize the transport network to meet environmental challenges and increasing mobility needs.
