To choose its mascot, the city of Nice turned to children. “Nice 2018” and the daily newspaper Nice Matin organized a contest called “Draw Me a Mascot.” The idea for this competition came about during the Christmas Village: “we thought that children could imagine a mascot,” explains Stรฉphane Spina, the commercial director of Nice Matin. “We are very proud to reward the creativity of the children. The criteria were subjective; we chose those who had both a sporty and a Niรงois aspect,” he continues.
Among hundreds of drawings, only twelve were shortlisted and then judged. The grand winner is Julia Arrighi, 8 years old, in CE2 (3rd grade in the French education system). To draw her mascot, the little girl used her imagination: “I like skiing. I imagined that the mountains were skiing. Since we are in Nice, I added ‘it’s soon going to be time for a Socca break.’ But there was no disappointment for the losers, since they each won two ski passes for Isola 2000, just like Julia, who also got an Mp3 player additionally.
