As one can read, following the agreement between the municipalities of Genoa and Nice, we had envisioned the possibility of interest from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport for its counterpart in Genoa-Voltri, named after Cristoforo Colombo, the Genoese who discovered America.
Today, we can say that Nice Premium had a keen sense and that the hypothesis of one day is becoming… a reality!
The idea is innovative and quite original: to create a double stopover for intercontinental flights between Asia and America. They represent the most lucrative market in the future as they are free from the competition of high-speed rail lines, which will reduce the volume of the airline business in the near future.
To be even clearer, here is the practical application: flight departure from Nice, stopover in Genoa, and then departure to the final destination. And for flights arriving from Asia and America, the first stopover in Genoa and final landing in Nice. The scheme is clear and intelligent: targeting, in addition to the traditional clientele, those who could use the Genoese airport as an alternative to Milan-Malpensa, or even Rome-Fiumicino.
A futuristic vision of the market, completely inspired by the globalization of supply and demand, is also possible with the next generation of aircraft that will allow doubling or even tripling the number of passengers per flight. Also, at stake is the optimization of management costs and the possibility of setting up an international commercial organization.
To complete our information: contacts between the administrators and managers of the two companies are established, meetings are scheduled, and files are being studied.
