An evening in tribute to Catherine Ségurane, a symbol of Niçoise identity, will take place tomorrow in Nice. Processions, tributes, and traditions will mark this commemoration.
Tomorrow evening, Nice will remember Catherine Ségurane, a legendary figure of Niçoise resistance. The heroine who is said to have repelled the Turkish attackers in 1543. She will be honored through a series of ceremonies.
The festivities will begin at 8 PM, with a procession starting from Place Saint-François. Shortly after, this parade will head to Rue Sincaire, where a gathering is planned in front of the Saint-Martin Saint-Augustin church. At 8:45 PM, a civil tribute will be paid in front of the stele dedicated to Catherine Ségurane. The Bishop of Nice, Monseigneur Jean-Philippe Nault, will speak there in the presence of the Niçoise Traditions Committee and Lou Caireù Niçart. Nice la Belle will accompany this ceremony with a thanksgiving dance.
Furthermore, at 9 PM, a torch-lit Marian procession will depart from the chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, led by the blue penitents. The evening will conclude at 9:30 PM with a religious service at the Notre-Dame du Port church, celebrated by Father Vincent Bottin.
