Nice Côte d’Azur is the first metropolitan area to be awarded the label

Christian Estrosi expressed his wish in February for the city of Nice to commit to the fight against cancer with the national initiative “Ma Ville se Ligue.”

This initiative aims to strengthen the actions of the City of Nice in response to the significant impact of cancer in the region. Wishing to further assist those affected by cancer and to promote prevention, Christian Estrosi signed the “Ma Métropole se ligue” agreement on May 21, 2024, in Paris at the SantExpo Exhibition.

The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis thus becomes the first Metropolis in France to commit to this initiative, which is structured around three main axes:

– Promote and enhance health-friendly environments through urban planning. This is to limit exposure to cancer risk factors. It involves improving citizens’ surroundings, such as having three trees per residence or benefiting from 30% greenery.

– Encourage the prevention of cancer risk factors and promote information and awareness of protective health factors. This includes tobacco-free beaches in 2023 and the introduction of sports programs at two euros for families in parks and gardens.

– Advocate for the denormalization of cancer risk factors in public spaces. To reduce the accessibility of psychoactive substances and decrease the consumption of ultra-processed foods and additives. Especially concerning the younger population, with a Territorial Health Plan that significantly limits the presence of endocrine disruptors.
