NICE FUTURE CAMPUS: official launch of the virtual student card on mobile NFC.

The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis will be the first university in Europe to implement this project.

nicefuture.jpg The “Nice Future Campus” project received support in 2009 from the Ministry of Industry as part of the IPER-SMSC collaborative project call (Innovation in Business Processes through RFID – Radio Frequency Identification – Contactless Mobile Services).
The objective of this experimental pilot project, which is a first in Europe, is to apply the future mobile phone standard “NFC” (Near Field Communication) to the Campus of the Future and demonstrate its added value for students.

The various mobile services making up the bouquet, visible via the link https://dreamit fr.org/videos/NiceFutureCampus.mp4, are being tested by a hundred students on the UNSA campuses since January 2011.

Presentation of the mobile services of the first virtual student card:

A contextualized information location service: by touching an NFC-tagged target on campus, the user can visualize the route to their next class, find a given place, the location of a book in the library, etc. This service also offers, in impact mode on a display window, access to general information from UNS, classifieds, job and internship offers…

A geo-localized social network service: the student can ‘blog’ about a place, a book, and leave a contextual message on social networks Facebook® or Twitter® by simply tapping an NFC tag.

A library 2.0 service: by tapping/scanning the target of a book, the student can browse through the recommendations from professors in their course, annotations of this book, and comments left by other students, and also interact by giving their own opinion.

An application (Woomji) dedicated to event management and ticketing/couponing on NFC mobile.

There is also a mobile payment service to pay with the digital wallet Moneo for meals at the CROUS University Restaurant, rechargeable at equipped vending machines and nearby shops on campus.

All the partners of the Nice Future Campus consortium will be present:

Extelia leads the project, deploys, and operates it. Furthermore, Extelia provides the ticketing/couponing and event management solution Tickizi co-developed with the MBDS of UNS (www.extelia.fr).

The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (with the MBDS master’s) co-leads the project, handles the prototyping of new NFC services, and coordinates with the team of sociologists and economists at the university.

Moneo Payments Solutions is tasked with offering Moneo payment and recharging solutions via Mobile (www.moneo.net).

Orange Labs brings its expertise in the development of NFC applications and ensures the deployment of student services on the mobile and NFC SIM while analyzing usage feedback (www.orange.com/fr_FR/innovation ).

Mobile Distillery provides the NFC application development platform (www.mobile-distillery.com) enabling the broadest possible reach of phones.

Cassis provides the TSM (Trusted Services Management) platform which allows securely loading, personalizing, and remotely managing applications and their data in the mobile element (e.g., SIM card). (www.cassis-intl.com)
