The aim is to show that each of us can, individually or collectively, work for the well-being of humanity, in areas as diverse as childhood, sustainable development, disability, fair trade, deforestation, etc.
Yesterday, the KIVUDI Association intervened on the theme of fighting deforestation: โThe planet in peril: deforestation, what alternatives?โ (Screening (8 minutes) and lecture by Angรฉlique KOLA, President of the KIVUDI Association)
In the Congolese language, KIVIDU means “the shadow that protects.” It is in this spirit that a local association dedicated to preserving its forest and educating its people about this path has adopted this name. โMy forest, the one where I was born, the one where I grew up, the one that nourished me, my forest is dying.โ This is the observation from which this association was born. However, the forest is the heart of life for these inhabitants. So how can we minimize forest dynamics? What alternatives exist for these populations whose lives primarily depend on this green space?
For about thirty years, deforestation has been a major issue significantly affecting Congolese populations and forest communities. However, there is a balance to be struck between economic solutions and negative consequences on living conditions. With 135 million hectares, the Congo forest is the second green lung of our planet. It’s home to a very diverse biodiversity and is essential for the survival of local populations, but it is also a vital resource for all of us. Let us not forget that without plants, there would be neither human nor animal life…
