Nice has adopted a plan to improve the housing of seasonal workers, essential to its tourism economy. A new agreement provides for innovative solutions to optimize housing and support their mobility.

The City Council on December 18, 2024 voted on a new three-year agreement with the State. This initiative is part of the 4th Local Housing Program (PLH) 2024-2029. It is based on a partnership with Action Logement. The goal is to offer more housing solutions to seasonal workers.

Nice welcomes 10 million visitors per year. Seasonal workers are essential in tourism, hospitality, and catering. Anthony Borré, the first deputy mayor, emphasizes their importance to the local economy. He states: “Seasonal workers are indispensable. It is essential to find solutions to house them.”

The agreement provides for:

  • Optimizing existing housing
  • Facilitating new types of housing
  • Communicating on available solutions
  • Supporting the mobility of seasonal workers
  • Strengthening local training and recruitment.

A diagnosis conducted with 350 tourism stakeholders confirms these needs. Cooperation between the city, public organizations, and professionals is necessary.

Solutions to Strengthen

The municipality collaborates with UMIH, CLLAJ, and ADIL 06. Student housing is used during the summer. These initiatives are not yet sufficient. The agreement aims for innovative and sustainable solutions. The objective is to accommodate seasonal workers in better conditions and support the local economy.
