This Saturday, the Rue de la Cité du Parc, located between Quai des États-Unis and Cours Saleya, is being renamed in honor of Jacques Chirac, former President of the Republic who passed away on September 26, 2019.

The Municipal Council unanimously voted for this proposal on October 17.

A plaque and a statue were unveiled in the presence of Claude Chirac, the daughter of the former president of the Republic.

Standing at 2.2 meters high and 80 cm wide, this statue which will adorn Cours Jacques Chirac was created by the artist from Nice, Patrick Frega.

“Here, we honor Jacques Chirac, the head of state and the man of France’s terroirs, the visionary and the unifier, the man of courage, justice, peace, for our country and for the planet,” declared Christian Estrosi during his speech. “The name of Jacques Chirac is now attached to this historic space in Nice.”
