The Municipal Council is not just a place for discussions between the majority and the opposition.

It is also the agora where the spirit of democracy is expressed. A place of memory as well for those who have contributed, directly or indirectly, to the city’s development by having public spaces named after them.

At last Friday’s session, a resolution was unanimously adopted concerning three figures:

Valéry GISCARD d’ESTAING, President of the Republic (1974-1981), for Route de Grenoble.

Vincent BERMOND, Chief Brigadier of the Nice Municipal Police, who participated in the creation of the mounted brigade, for the road starting at number 4 of boulevard Paul Montel and serving the Moulins school and the Bermond farm.

Jean MOULIN, Prefect, President of the National Council of Resistance, for Baumettes primary school 1, located at 23, rue Dante.

Jean Moulin had stayed on the Côte d’Azur between the two wars. Our city inspired his talent as a painter and illustrator, in his works signed under the pseudonym Romanin.

It was on February 7, 1941, 80 years ago, that he returned to the Nice region after being dismissed by Vichy and obtained, under the identity of Joseph Mercier, a “fake passport” issued by the sub-prefecture of Grasse.
