Already an award winner in 2014 for the “My Community Has Heart” label supported by the RMC-BFM association, the City of Nice received “three hearts,” the highest distinction, last week.
The “My Community Has Heart” label highlights good local practices in preventing cardiac arrests. 150 communities are labeled in France, and only 29 of them, including Nice, have received the “three hearts” distinction.
Its objective is to encourage communities and intermunicipal bodies to commit to this public health cause in order to reduce the number of deaths from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in France.
Since 2014, the City of Nice, in collaboration with the “20,000 Lives” association, has initiated awareness campaigns and increased the installation of defibrillators and training sessions for residents.
In 2016, the City of Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis started installing defibrillators at all tramway stations.
Nice now has 159 cardiac defibrillators installed in public buildings accessible to the residents of Nice, including 14 in Municipal Police vehicles.
Today, more than 50,000 people die each year from cardiac arrest in France. The survival rate reaches 7%.
