The National Council of Cities and Regions of Art and History has voted in favor of awarding the “City of Art and History” label to the City of Nice.
For Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, “Obtaining this national label confirms and rewards our commitment to cultural development, heritage enhancement, and responsible management of the city’s urban landscape.”
Nice has already been labeled as a “City of Art” and then a “City of Art and History” from 1969 to 1997.
As of today, the “Cities and Regions of Art and History” network includes 196 territories, among which, in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, are the cities of Arles, Fréjus, Grasse, and Menton, as well as the Provence Verte Verdon Region of Art and History.
The application process began in June 2017 with the submission of the initial pre-application to the DRAC, leading to May 10, 2019, with the submission of the City of Nice’s application to the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
