So, the new general manager of the club (SASP), whose appointment was also a surprise, didn’t even have time to catch his breath before getting to work, given the need to form a new team following numerous departures and arrivals.
Today, the bulk of the work is done, and it’s time to let the field speak for whether the choices made are of quality.
Nice Premium met with Marc-André Doumergue to learn more a few days before the first championship match (on September 12 against Graulhet at Arboras).
“My objectives as the club’s general manager are very clear, and I will summarize them in three points:
1. To ensure the sustainability of the club from a societal perspective (operating budget and organization of sports, commercial, and administrative management).
2. To train quality young players in coordination with the Association so that our first team can integrate them, with the aim of building a true bridge between the rugby school and the first team.
3. To achieve the best results with the first team to reach the elite of French rugby, which remains the goal of the club’s sports policy and the municipality that supports it.
We must rediscover a strong Nice identity that I prefer to call ‘NISSARTE,’ hence our desire to clearly identify it on our jersey!
Since the rebirth of Nice rugby into Rugby Nice Côte d’Azur, the club has climbed, thanks to the various figures who have made this new history, all the steps of amateur rugby.
Today, we find ourselves at a crossroads of our shared history and, thanks to the support of our Mayor, Christian Estrosi, we finally see the possibility of embarking on the race for the Pro D2.
The path will be long and difficult. It will not escape a deep overhaul of the club and its operations. This journey towards professional rugby will not happen without what made our club: a long and rich history as a finalist in the French Championship in 1983, a true attraction for the youth of our city, which today makes it one of the largest rugby schools in France.
In conclusion, I would say that Nice must return to the rugby elite, and the rugby elite must return to Nice!”
