After the Olympic flame, it is the Paralympic flame that will pass through the Alpes-Maritimes department next summer before heading to Paris. The capital will host the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
The city of Antibes Juan-les-Pins will participate in the relay of the Paralympic flame in the summer of 2024. Its route was revealed on November 10 by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee (Cojop). More than 1,000 scouts will take turns. Thus, the flame will pass through more than fifty cities.
Charles Ange Ginésy expressed his pride in hosting the passage of the Paralympic flame in the Alpes-Maritimes, labeled Terre de Jeux 2024. “We will make this project a festive and popular event that will allow us to continue our commitment to the theme of inclusion and disability. Welcoming the Paralympic Flame Relay is a truly significant moment around which we pledge to mobilize all the active forces of the region,” shares the president of the department.
Starting from the city of Stoke Mandeville in England, once the symbolic flame is lit, its journey towards Paris will begin. It will first reach France by going through the Channel Tunnel. Carried by 24 English athletes and then 24 French athletes, it will arrive in Calais.
On August 25, twelve flames will be lit in twelve cities in France, including Antibes Juan-les-Pins, before all converging towards Paris, arriving in time for the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on August 28, 2024, at Place de la Concorde.
In addition, the Olympic flame will pass through Nice on June 18 next year. In one day, it will make stops in seven municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes.
