One of the solutions to effectively fight against noise is the installation of this new pavement. Thus, last night, during the night of November 20 to 21, 2008, the city teams installed the first pavement designed by acousticians. Located on Avenue Saint Jean Baptiste, between Delfy Street and Tonduti de l’Escarène Street, this new asphalt will serve as a test. It reduces the noise perceived by residents by a factor of 8 and improves tire grip. It is 20 to 30 times less expensive than other noise reduction methods, costing €100,000.
If this initial test proves successful, the city of Nice will extend this operation to other routes.

The different actions implemented to fight against noise pollution

The charter for tranquility and nighttime conviviality, proposed to the Union of Cafe, Restaurant, and Nightlife Owners, aims to ensure the tranquillity of residents by setting up rights and duties. For example, a noise impact study or the obligation to inform customers about the noise they may generate has been implemented, with possible sanctions.
The green brigade of the municipal police has, since last March, issued 481 “noise ticket-fines” and mobilized 331 two-wheelers.

Finally, on November 20, a new, quieter take-off procedure was implemented at Nice Airport.

In collaboration with state services, Nice Côte d’Azur is currently developing noise maps for the entire community area. These will determine residents’ exposure, thereby identifying critical noise areas or quiet zones to protect.
As of April 2009, they will serve as a basis for the establishment of the Noise Prevention Plan, which will enable the implementation of effective measures to combat noise pollution in the 24 municipalities of the future urban community.
