In order to improve traffic flow and the use of automobiles in the city, reduce pollution and enhance the quality of life for residents, the municipality of Nice has decided to implement a “Global Parking Scheme 2011-2015.”

Presented on September 30, 2011, this action plan revolves around 10 new initiatives, including intelligent parking, which stands out as one of the most innovative and ambitious measures.

The City of Nice is indeed installing a network of communication sensors on sidewalks connected to a new generation of parking meters, which will soon allow drivers to know in real-time the available on-street parking spaces and provide them with new payment solutions.

This system, by reducing the time spent searching for a free parking spot, will improve traffic flow, especially that of public transport, assist in the efficient management of delivery zones and parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities, and reduce CO2 emissions related to urban traffic.

The technological solutions proposed within the Intelligent Parking framework and developed for the City of Nice by SEMIACS and its subsidiary SUDE were recognized with the “Best Innovative Smart City Project 2011” award at the last Smart City Expo World Congress held in Barcelona at the end of 2011.
