The green corridor is enriched with a new work of art. This Thursday, the bust of Nikaïa, a work by Cyril de la Patelière, was officially installed. This sculpture, acquired by the city of Nice in 2017, is a creation from 2006. It is a bronze piece with a green patina, standing 98 centimeters tall and weighing 400 kilograms.
Cyril de la Patelière is an artist from Nice. His artistic training took place at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice from 1967 to 1972. He joined Villa Arson in 1973. Initially a commercial graphic designer, he devoted himself to sculpture after 1982. His first work in Nice is located at the Acropolis Palace: “Homage to the Mediterranean.”
Cyril de la Patelière met some of the most prestigious artists: Picasso, Moretti, César, and especially Volti in Villefranche, who persuaded him to pursue sculpture. This artist has been awarded several times and is internationally recognized. He adds another piece to the open-air museum of the green corridor for its beautification.
Nikaïa is a tribute to Greece, of which our city is the daughter. Nikaïa, Nice, was a nymph of Bithynia; the Greek statuary with its profile and drapery is respected. The artist shares the genesis of his sculpture: “A discussion with Raymond Moretti while studying Kalista marble.”
Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, removed the Niçois flag while inaugurating this statue, announcing to the delight of art lovers and aesthetes that other works would follow to adorn this green corridor, whose daily success is evident.
Today, the Greeks from Phocaea are honored with Nikaïa, goddess of victory, goddess of beauty, close to Michelangelo’s David; she is a link between antiquity and the Renaissance. Between the ancient Greek and Roman city and Nice descending from the castle hill to bloom on the banks of the Paillon.
