This week, France is in the spotlight. A beautiful selection of films of all genres, most of which come from the Hexagon. Ambitious and varied films that cater to all the curious viewers.

1. November by Cรฉdric Jimenez

This first film is a particularly promising crime thriller. The story immerses us in the account of the 5-day investigation that followed the November 13, 2015 attack. A rather dark feature film, carried by exceptional actors. Jean Dujardin takes the lead, accompanied by the talented Anaรฏs Demoustier and Sandrine Kiberlain. The cinematography with its cold colors and the rather serious narrative tone promises us a striking film, reflecting the gravity of this challenging period. Note that this film was part of the 2022 Official Out of Competition selection at the Cannes Film Festival.

2. The Origin of Evil by Sรฉbastien Marnier

A film marking a French-Canadian collaboration. This drama, tinged with a touch of thriller, tells the story of a young woman’s encounter with a strange family living in a luxurious villa by the seaside. An unknown evil seems to lurk within this vast villa, and suspicions therefore fall on all the characters. This film was part of the official selection of the 75th Venice Film Festival. An exciting feature film is on the horizon.

3. Ticket to Paradise by Ol Parker

This week, an American film marks the return of the iconic duo George Clooney and Julia Roberts. This romantic comedy is set in the paradisiacal backdrop of Bali. The couple, played by our two actors, will try to convince their daughter not to succumb to her infatuation and prevent a potential marriage. A classic rom-com that will satisfy regulars of the genre.

4. Tori and Lokita by Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne

This film by the Dardenne brothers tells the story of the friendship between Lokita and Tori, two young exiles from Africa. A deep and touching story, which received the 75th Cannes Film Festival Award this year. The filmmakers chose Pablo Schils and Joely Mbundu to play these protagonists. Two young actors acting for the first time in front of a camera. This debut on screen promises to be sincere and moving.

5- One Fine Morning by Mia Hansen-Lรธve

The director Mia Hansen-Lรธve returns after her sublime Bergman Island, released in 2021. This time, we follow a young mother (played by the indispensable Lรฉa Seydoux) raising her daughter alone. Often visiting her sick father, she embarks on a strenuous path to get him treated. But she eventually reconnects with Clรฉment, a childhood friend she had lost touch with. A romance that promises to be sweet and refreshing, with its lead actress deeply invested in her role. The film was also part of the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
