OGC Nice – FC Basel: a tense trip to Switzerland

Latest News

After eliminating Sheriff Tiraspol in the previous round, the European adventure of the Aiglons continues with a first quarter-final at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland.

A few days after their defeat inflicted by Paris Saint-Germain in the league, OGC Nice returns to the Europa Conference League in a tense atmosphere, with a first quarter-final against FC Basel.

Against PSG led by Christophe Galtier, OGC Nice suffered a defeat (0-2) with heavy consequences. After four consecutive draws, the Gym moves away from European qualification and experiences its first loss since Didier Digard took charge. Beyond the result, the match revived tensions regarding the Parisian coach’s previous stint at Nice last season. A climate of tension that does not allow the Aiglons to approach this historic match in the best conditions.

Ranked 6th in the Swiss Super League, FC Basel is not performing as usual in the Swiss championship. Nevertheless, several talents from the Swiss club, such as forwards Zeki Amdouni and Anti Zeqiri, will need close watching. In the red and blue ranks, there are two players who have previously been with the Gym: Dan Ndoye and academy product Andy Pelmard.

Nearly 63 years after their last European quarter-final, the Aiglons must prove that they have managed to keep a cool head and stay focused for the match at 9 PM tonight. The match is broadcast on W9 in free-to-air format and on Canal + Foot.

The probable line-ups:

FC Basel: Hitz – Adams, Pelmard, Lang – Diouf, T. Xhaka, Burger, Lopez – Amdouni, Zeqiri, Males

OGC Nice: Schmeichel – Bard, Dante, Todibo, Rosario – Boudaoui, Ndayishimiye, Ramsey – Thuram, Moffi, Laborde
