Nice Premiรจre caught up with a former OGC Nice player who has now joined the staff of the red and black house: Eric Roy.
It is at his initiative that the first edition of the OGC Nice Golf Cup will take place on Sunday, October 8 at the Old Course in Cannes Mandelieu. A red and black day under the theme of golf with precision contests, drive contests, and an Audi A4 put up as a prize for a hole-in-one. This competition is open to all licensed players.
Nice Premiรจre: Eric, tell us about this first edition of the OGC Nice Golf Cup?
Eric Roy: It is an event that falls within the framework of the OGC Nice Partners’ Club. To bring it to life, the Marketing department organizes various events throughout the year to create synergy between member companies. The goal is to meet and exchange ideas in different places and with different formats. This golf tournament fits this purpose. It will take place on Sunday, October 8 at the Old Course Golf in Cannes-Mandelieu.
It is a course and a Club owned by the Camerini family, historically linked to OGC Nice, and also a member of the 2006-2007 Partners’ Club.
NP: Many footballers play golf. Are you one of them?
ER: Yes, I have been playing for about ten years. When I played for Olympique Lyonnais, we used to have training camps at the Golf du Gouverneur, and that’s where I hit my first balls… Nowadays, I sometimes share games with former teammates and opponents: Laurent BLANC, Alain BOGHOSSIAN, David GINOLA, Marco SIMONE, Christian LOPEZ, Eric DI MECO, and many others… My favorite partner remains historically and sentimentally Jรฉrome ALONZO.
NP: What complementarities do these two sports have?
ER: I think footballers are drawn to golf due to the fundamental differences between these two sports.
Being out in nature, in peace and quiet, playing an individual sport, is a radical change from the stadium atmospheres we experienced during our careers. Nonetheless, it remains a very demanding sport where the competitive spirit is highly developed.
NP: Is this the first competition in a long series, I suppose?
ER: Similar to the football tournament organized last May, the OGC Nice Golf Cup aims to become a long-term event and a key event for the Partners’ Club.
NP: How did the idea for this event come about?
ER: My passion for golf, the ability of this sport to bring companies together, the conviviality of a lunch after 18 holes are all reasons that led me to include this event in the Partners’ Club calendar.
NP: And finally, any other projects in the OGC Nice pipeline?
ER: We are thinking and working every day to offer the companies that support us new opportunities to become an integral part of the OGC Nice Cรดte d’Azur life. We are already preparing the annual Partners’ Gala dinner, which promises to be a unique event with maybe a pleasant surprise in store…
