Initially, Nice was targeting not only Viti but also his Empoli teammate, the left-back Fabiano Parisi. An offer of more than 20 million to acquire both players was sent to the Serie A club, but it was rejected.
The Nice club then focused on the central defender. An agreement was reached with the Tuscan team for around 15 million.
