César Héctor “Pancho” Gonzalès, one of its most iconic eaglets, has passed away at the age of 89.
He will no longer be seen in the stands at the Allianz Riviera, he who had been inseparable from the Stade du Ray, but he will always live on in the memory of Nice football.
He arrived from his native Argentina in the middle of the last century to Nice, a city he never left and where he even learned the local language, Nissart.
Recently elected as the captain of history by Nice supporters and a prominent member of the Team of the Century, he won three French championship titles (1952, 1956, 1959) and two French Cups (1952, 1954) with OGC Nice, a club he considered his second family.
