Nearly 3,800 people took to the streets of Nice on October 17 to denounce the high cost of living and defend several social demands. While the march was initially marked by strong youth mobilization, the demonstration was also marked by tensions and vandalism towards the end of the route. From Avenue Jean-Médecin to Place Garibaldi, our photographer followed this day of mobilization in Nice up close. Between protest signs, slogans carried by students and Yellow Vests, as well as police interventions and clashes on the margins of the gathering, these photographs chronicle the different faces of a demonstration that brought together several thousand people in Nice’s city center. A photographic look back through the eye of Julien Wagnon at a day marked as much by the expression of social discontent as by the violence that tarnished the message of protesters.
