The General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes continues its commitment to the cleanliness of the coastline.
This summer, 90,000 biodegradable bags are made available free of charge to boaters at the harbormaster’s offices of the 34 ports in the Alpes-Maritimes.
With a capacity of 30 liters, these bags allow for the collection of waste generated aboard the boats so that it can then be unloaded on land in the appropriate containers.
A “clean harbor” operation is being conducted locally in the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, in July and August.
A barge is chartered by the General Council to collect the boaters’ garbage.
Since its inception in 2008, this initiative has recovered 216 tons of waste.
An information campaign is also being circulated to raise boatersโ awareness of environmental protection and thus contribute to preserving the quality of marine waters.
Let us remember that this action is part of the commitment made by the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes for the cleanliness of the coastline and adds to the aerial surveillance system of bathing waters and the cleaning of water bodies.
