Patrick Allemand returns to politics on the scene for the national congress of the PS.

Since the municipal elections in 2020, when the list he was leading was excluded from the second round and therefore from representation on the municipal council, Patrick Allemand had kept a low profile, limiting himself to associative activities within Nice au Coeur.

Moreover, his relations with the current leadership of the Socialist Party, of which he had been a leading figure for many years, are rather cool, according to those in the know.

In short, had a page been turned?

Passion being a flame that never goes out, here is Patrick Allemand returning to the stage: “I waited for the end of the regional elections to officialize my position. I chose to build a new perspective for the PS with Hélène Geoffroy
, I will support her in the next congress.”

The next Congress of the Socialist Party will be held in September in Villeurbanne. On this occasion, all the Socialist Party’s bodies will be renewed, and a new national secretary will be elected.

Hélène Geoffroy, mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, is the first signatory of the orientation text A “Debout les socialistes vers le Renouveau” (Rise, Socialists, towards Renewal). She proposes a line starkly different from that advocated by Olivier Faure for the future of the Socialist Party.

In order to discuss with the militants of the PS 06 federation, she was present in Nice this Friday to develop the new orientation she wishes to give to the Socialist Party.

To be honest, this gathering did not draw a large crowd… in fact, the registered attendees are around 200 throughout the department. The party is not present in any significant town hall, and there is only one elected official on the departmental council. No public activity has been known for some time, as the few tweets dispatched do not constitute political action. In short, the local PS has become a party in a gaseous state!

On a national level, Hélène Geoffroy opposes the line of Olivier Faure, a candidate for his succession, who places the socialists in a subordinate position to the supposedly winning strategy of the ecologists.

The former deputy and Secretary of State under François Hollande disagrees: “We maintained the five regions where the socialist presidents were identified with a clear line, a record, and a project. In this case, the Left’s rally was centered around the PS. These elections have thus invalidated the strategy of the current national leadership,” she wrote in her analysis of the vote in the recent regional elections.

And to be even clearer… “only the PS can create the conditions for a left-wing alternative.” The figure of Anne Hidalgo appears in the background…

Patrick Allemand will be the local relay of this line, in opposition to that of Xavier Garcia and the departmental leadership which positions itself in support of Olivier Faure’s candidacy.

In fact, more than a political position, it’s more of a small skirmish between small clans. And yes, the good times are just a distant memory.
