On June 3rd, the city of Menton will host the 5th International Meetings for Peace. True to the spirit of tolerance and listening of its main organizers, always eager to establish through the medical world a dialogue between Israeli and Palestinian people, the Pax Medicalis Association wishes this year to dedicate its work to the theme of religion through a question that is both simple and complex: “Judaism, Christianity, Islam: what dialogues?” With speakers representing the various aspects of the three monotheisms, these meetings will try to address several aspects of the Abrahamic religions:
– How to approach, particularly from the perspective of modernity and the law on the “disenchantment of the world,” the question of the historicity of fundamental sources, especially that of sacred texts?
– What could be the evolutions that characterize the daily relationships between the faithful and the scriptures? Between recommendations, prohibitions, and distancing, how can interpretation and personal faith be reconciled?
– How to understandโand possibly sootheโthe often tumultuous relationships maintained between religion and political power?
– Should one prescribeโor on the contrary fearโthe separation, the fusion, the complementarity between the two, or even the manipulation of one by the other?
– How can we also envisage that religion, a source of conflict, could also serve as more positive bonds between peoples?
So many questions from which the contemporary world does not spare us examples, often painful, and which will very likely support the joint reflection of the guests and the audience during these meetings.
